Program in Western Civilization
Fall 2004 – AUP
Participation in this program is open to sophomores and juniors with a 3.0 GPA and no prior knowledge of French. Students who have already begun French language study are directed to EAP's other programs in France.

Academic program

All students enroll in beginning French in addition to three courses selected from the AUP catalog with subject matters emphasizing all aspects of Western Civilization, but with special emphasis on Paris , France , and European culture. These courses may fulfill general education and/or breadth requirements as well as major requirements in the fields of art history, literature, communications, history, urban culture, political science, and psychology.

Courses

All AUP semester courses are worth 4.5 quarter units. UC students will be expected to complete a full load of 18 quarter units/semester, and will take a course load of three content courses in addition to a language course. Students may register for an additional content course, on a space available basis, during the first full week of the semester.

Note : Not all courses are offered in every semester. Some courses have pre-requisites, but may be taken by permission of the instructor.

Among the courses listed in the AUP catalog, UC students are permitted to take not more than ONE course from the following departments:

  • Information Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Science
Students wishing to take more than one course from these departments must nonetheless pre-register according to these restrictions and must consult with the Paris Study Center Director during the drop/add period of the first week of classes at AUP.
